Matthew Smith is an Associate at Conrad|Metlitzky|Kane. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense, representing clients in contract and employment disputes, internal investigations, class actions, securities litigation, and environmental law. He has represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to indigent criminal defendants in both state and federal court.

Matthew began his legal career at Morrison & Foerster as a member of their securities litigation and white collar teams.  He then served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard Seeborg of the U.S. District Court for Northern District of California, and the Honorable Michelle Friedland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Matthew earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he served as articles editor of the Harvard Journal on Legislation and co-founded Harvard’s West Coast Law Students Association. He graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College where he majored in government and classical languages.

Prior to law school, Matthew taught social studies and coached middle school debate in San Jose. He also spent a year cycling 4,000 miles through South America. When he’s not working, you’ll find Matthew training for his next IronMan triathlon.
